A deep green oil with a bold earthy character, used when a formula needs depth and strength.
A deep green, earthy oil that gives balms real depth and a rich, grounded character.

Tamanu Oil is forest-dark and ancient-feeling. In the Apothecary, it represents restoration, resilience, and the green medicine of the earth after hardship.
Tamanu Oil is pressed from the nuts of the tamanu tree, a large coastal tree that grows across the islands of the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, and the Indian Ocean. In Polynesia, the tree is considered sacred and is often planted near places of gathering. The nuts are collected, left to dry in the sun for weeks until the kernels turn sticky and dark, and then pressed to release their thick, green oil.
Tamanu Oil is known in cosmetic formulas for its rich texture, distinctive green color, and earthy aroma. It is a heavier, more concentrated oil than most, and a little goes a long way. It is often used in balms, oils, and targeted care products where depth and conditioning are desired.
In balms, tamanu brings a deep, grounded character and a cushioned feel on dry or rough-feeling skin. It is often blended with lighter oils, such as jojoba or sweet almond, so that its richness spreads easily. Its natural green color gives finished products a beautiful forest-dark tint without any added colorants.
Tamanu also has a bold, nutty, almost spicy scent that some people love immediately. In our blends, we use it thoughtfully, letting its earthy depth support the other ingredients rather than overwhelm them. It is a favorite for hardworking hands, weathered skin, and anyone who wants a balm that feels truly substantial.
